My Donation for the Nickelodeon Big Book Drive #NickCFK

Last week I shared with you my excitement in being a part of the this month’s Champion for Kids Simple Service Project. Their theme is the Nickelodeon Big Book Drive and was right up my alley!

I first headed to Walmart to see what Nickelodeon books we could finding, including the new Dora the Gymnast. I grabbed a handful of books I knew the little ones would love.

My next idea was to get a book drive together. Since Hubby has his own office where people come to see him, I thought it would be a perfect place to promote for people to drop off. Everyone loves to help out right?

He has one section of his wall painted in with chalkboard paint so he made that area his gathering space.

We collected a books for about a week and a half. It wasn’t as long as I would have liked, but now that I have found a great organization in town that needs all the help it can get, I will be donating a lot more!

I found a local Orphan Relief organization that provides goods and services to children who have been abused or neglected. They work directly with other non-profits, schools, foster parents, and government agencies to identify the individual needs of these and other children in severe situations.

On Hubby’s Day off, we dropped off the books!

They were very happy to see us when we arrived! We received a tour of their facility and everything that they collect. At one point I had tears in my eyes as I saw the boys pants section. They are in desperate need of size 6-10 and their shelves were nearly bare! It is on my list this week to check out Goodwill and local thrift stores to see what I can find for them.

This was their library section. When they find out the ages of the kids in need they gather a collection to give them.

I am so glad I did this project! Not just because it feels good to Give, but I have learned about a local organization that needs my help all year round.

Getting the kids involved was the best too!

Participate with me in the Big Help Book Drive in your community and to report it on the Champions for Kids website. Be one of millions to help meet the goal of 20 million people by 2020.

Where would you donate to?
