Living With Wellness Gluten, Casien and Nightshade Free Cookbook

I’m excited to share this new book with you today! Living With Wellness is a gluten, casien and nightshade free cookbook filled with yummy meals that the whole family should enjoy. What makes it even more special to me is that it is written by a good friend of mine!

Monica is a holistic nutritionist who specializes in food allergies and sensitivities. She has watched her mom and aunt battle with issues of food intolerance and cooking this way has become natural in their family.

When I get a chance to start my Crunchy Mama series again, I would love to feature her, as I call her my Very Crunchy Friend and turn to her whenever I have a question about food or any topic in the natural mama category. She is very informed and can tell you exactly why certain foods are bad for you. Cow’s milk (she will gross you out!), fluoride in water (she introduced me to the Berkey!), and extended breastfeeding are some of our everyday chats.

You might be asking me what Casien and Nightshade are…

Casien is a protein found in cow’s milk, but is not the same as being lactose intolerant.

Nightshades are foods that belong to the botanical group solanacae and alkaloids and can cause gastronintestinal and neurological disorders. This includes potatoes (but not sweet potatoes), tomatoes, and peppers.

And being Gluten Free, you probably know is staying away from wheat, spelt, barley, and rye.

Can you imagine having to cook and eat every meal with foods not containing any of those ingredients? Many people have to and just think how healthy they are! Living with Wellness is a nightshade free cookbook filled with lots of recipes from appetizers to desserts and everything in between.

 

The other night for dinner we made Mahi with Mango Salsa.

My salsa was more pineapple with a bit of mango. Bad me did not buy a ripe mango.

Hubby loves seafood and since it is not my favorite I do not cook it enough. Do you know that he told me THREE times that night how much he loved dinner? Wow, I guess I know how to get on his good side.

Everyone ate this! The kids were a little put off at first with the pineapple being a salsa, but they got used to it right away.

Very easy and quick to make!

 

For dessert…oh you will love this snack…Chocolate Cinnamon Caramel Corn.

This one was a bit of work just because you constantly had to be paying attention to it. But oh so worth it!

It makes a lot! I took some over to the neighbors and put the rest in a sealed container. I have been munching on it all week!

  • I don't pay close attention to these specific dietary issues, but do try to eat fresh and natural foods. Perhaps a good cookbook would get me motivated in that direction. ;)
  • I am definitely trying to live and cook healthier for my family. I have friends who are gluten and nightshade free and I'd love to have more recipes to rely on to help feed them when they visit!

  • I have to watch gluten for my son. He used to have extreme behavior issues when he was a toddler/preschooler. Once we got him off gluten he really calmed down. We also have to watch dairy, corn, yeast and peanuts. He can have small amounts of them. If he has too much he gets pesty or irritable. I've had problems with dairy my whole life and cut down on it when I had my first child and almost cut it out completely since then. I'm gradually finding the rest of my family needs to be off dairy and probably the rest of this stuff too. We have mood swings, weight gain, eczema and who knows what else because of it. This book would help put us in the right direction I think.
  • I have to eat gluten free because I have celiac disease and slight lactose intolerance. i haven't noticed any difficulties with casein/ nightshade though. I enjoy trying to eat as healthy as possible.

  • I only go out to eat with friends, otherwise I cook...I try to cook pretty healthy, but I have to admit that I have a sweet tooth and I have to be careful about making too many desserts.

  • We've done pretty well over the past few years, to cut out extra fat and calories as well as sweets. We switched from white bread to whole grains/whole wheat, we went from 2% to skim milk, normal mayo to light mayo, things like that.
