Boys and Girls Club of America & Amway Encourage Healthy Eating

| |

The Boys and Girls Club of America (or BGCA) has been around for over 100 years. I have never been directly involved with them before so I looked up to find two clubs that are close enough to me that I can find out how I could directly help. It is a great cause that provides a safe haven for many children who are often left alone with supervision in the community. They provide kids with a fun and engaging atmosphere to help them develop the creativity and confidence necessary to succeed in school.

The BGCA is teamed up with Amway for a topic that is very important to me – educating kids on healthy diets and lifestyles. The earlier we can teach this the better. Their goal is to involve children in shopping, cooking and gardening to get kids interested in fruits and vegetables and getting them one step closer to eating them. Love this idea!

I have learned as a mom that it takes many attempts at introducing the same food before it may be eaten. When one of my boys helps me to make a new menu item, there is definitely a better chance that they will try it and like it!

There are three programs BGCA & Amway are working together on…

POSITIVE SPROUTS® Curriculum – Amway is enabling the delivery of a healthy food curriculum to 4,000 Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide ensuring that all Clubs have access to educational materials promoting healthy eating habits

Garden In A Box Kits – Amway is donating 150 Garden In A Box kits to Boys & Girls Clubs who demonstrated an interest and need for establishing a community gardening program at their Club. The kit includes a variety of fruit and vegetable seeds and supplies Clubs need to get started.

Very cool! What child doesn’t like to get down and dirty and watch things grow?

POSITIVE SPROUTS® Sustainability Grants – Amway is providing $30,000 in Sustainability Grants to ten deserving Boys & Girls Clubs who previously received community gardens from Amway. The funds are designed to assist Clubs with the maintenance of their garden as well as improve nutrition for Club members.

What do you think about the Positive Sprouts program?

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Boys and Girls Clubs of America and Amway. I received a promotional item as a thank-you for participating.
