Beach Walk Ideas and Inspiration to Keep Moving

After 10 years living away from the beach I am back! I have a 7-minute drive from my home to parking at the shoreline. Every few days I have to head to the ocean to feel the sand on my toes and listen to the waves crashing. What better exercise then something that doesn’t feel like work. Every trip I encounter something new and come up with new beach walk ideas and more inspiration to keep me moving.

Most of the time I walk barefoot so I can splash in the water along the way, but as Fall sets in the water is starting to get colder and putting on good footwear with arch support inserts makes walking easier.

Take Pics

I always wear clothing that have a pocket for the treasures that I find, so bringing my phone along is a must. Some days it is the gorgeous scenery I must capture and others it is what washed up along the shore. My goal is to always walk 10,000 steps a day and any inspiration to keep me moving is always appreciated.

The Waves and The Weather

The weather and how it affects the tides is one of the best things about visiting the beach. A cloudless day and slow waves make for a perfect walk. But a cloudy day and rough surf make my stroll a little more exciting and I can spent hours watching it toss and turn.

People Watch

One of my favorite sights is watching people who have never seen the ocean before. You can always detect who they are by the looks on their faces. All children are a wonder to watch as they run into the water giggling or building their castles while digging a moat around it with their sand shovels. There are always dogs playing fetch, families flying kites, and the brave souls who attempt to ride the waves with their surf boards.

Discover Sea Life

Your camera will come in handy for the animals you will encounter on your walk. Birds diving into the water to catch their meal, crabs coming out of their holes, washed up jellyfish that have lost their life, and lonely starfish in the shallow pools.

Shell Hunting

My favorite time to go to the beach is at low tide. My eyes never stop wandering looking for a unique shell to add to my growing collection. As you pick them up and look them over you think wow I wonder how old this shell is and what it has been through. The stories that it could tell.
