Learning Can Be Fun with DimensionU!
If you were to ask my big boys ~ ages 7 & 9 ~ what is their favorite thing to do is…they would both say Video Games.
That is why parents like me are glad for websites like DimensionU. They play games while learning at the same time. What is nice about DimensionU is that the kids hardly know they are really fine tuning their math skills. I’ve never seen such ‘real looking’ video games that incorporate math problems as well they do!
It was easy for C’Man to sign up. All he needed was a username and password (with my email!) with his age and grade level. It then took us to the main screen where we got to choose between 1 of 2 games to play.
We played Gadget Works first! This reminded me of Tetris and I even joined in the fun. Actually the three of us worked together against the clock to solve the problems. Remove the color balls so that new balls can drop down. Earn points! Answer a math question to get rewarded with more powers. Actually, as I’m sitting here writing this review, I logged back in to take another look and got sucked in playing!
The second game, Meltdown, amazes me on its video game quality. This not-so-bright-mom had to read the instructions very closely to figure out where my guy needed to go. Your character, who is very real life looking in his 3D mode, is on a mission to find the colored balls and take them to their stations. C’Man figured it out in less than five seconds and was soon all over this game! He could have played forever. He knew how to collect, drop off, jump, shoot, and best of all, he answered his math questions superbly!
You can take DimensionU to another level. Meaning, if you sign up as a parent, you can add money into your account. Your kids will then earn this allowance as they achieve their goals. They can buy cool things like games, Legos, books, even a Kindle Fire! Of course my boys are dying for me to join this part, but I haven’t yet. We’ll see. Not sure how much I actually want them to play video games, even if they are learning.
Check out DimensionU with your kids if they are in 3rd grade or beyond. I think they will enjoy the games and its ‘real’ quality! 🙂
I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for DimensionU. I received a free trial of DimensionU to facilitate my review and a promotional item as a thank-you for participating.
