Does your family care about animals? Do you talk about the environment with your kids? Jane, the new Apple TV+ show will be a great addition to your television lineup. Here are my first thoughts and review of Jane Apple TV+.

The series is partnered with Dr Jane Goodall, an environmental advocate who is known for her work with chimpanzees. She said this about the show “The program ‘Jane’ spreads a message of hope and reminds children that the environment is something that we all have to be concerned about while also inspiring them and their parents to make a difference.”

The main character is 9 year old Jane. She and her friend David go on (imaginary) adventures around the world to learn more about endangered animals, while devising a plan on how we can all help them. Always by their side is Jane’s stuffed chimp Greybeard who comes to life when the adults aren’t around.

Jane puts a tracking collar on the polar bear to follow him home.

We watched the first episode last night. My first thought was that it reminded me a lot Dino Dan (or the follow up Dino Dana), the boy who knew a lot about dinosaurs and they would appear at school or his home as he talked about them. This episode of Jane focused on polar bears. Why do polar bears live alone and how many are left are the questions Jane and David wanted answered. The polar bear would appear in their world and then they tracked it to the (imaginary) habitat of the bear where they could monitor it more closely.

It was a cute episode. Jane is a lovable, chatty character that you can’t help but like. Her mom mentions that she has an overactive imagination and a great caring for the environment. For example, they built a snowmobile out of a box and that became the real life snowmobile they used in the arctic to watch the polar bear at his home.

Did you know that polar bears eat whales? My favorite parts were when Jane was teaching the adults on the show facts about endangered species and how “Only if we understand, will we care. Only if we care, will we help. Only if we help, can they be saved,” a Dr Jane Goodall quote. Jane taught her neighbor that recycling is important and how even one person can make a huge difference.

A show that teaches, but adventurous enough that the kids will never know it’s educational. ha!
