Organic Lunch Ideas by Creating the Organic LunchBox
Today I want to share with you some great tips from Santa Cruz Organic in how to create a healthy organic lunchbox and I am also going to show you my typical organic lunch ideas and how I pack them.
5 Tips for creating an Organic Lunchbox
1. Eat the rainbow –“Eating the rainbow” helps bodies get a complete range of nutrients. The more naturally occurring colors in your kiddo’s lunch box, the better. Plus a lunchbox full of colorful foods and produce is sure to be more appetizing and get your kids excited to eat every last bite.
2. Finger Foods – Make lunches exciting with fun and easy finger foods such as organic carrot sticks, string cheese or apples. Mix it up by adding different dipping ideas like peanut butter or hummus.
3. Put them to work – they’ll think it’s play! – Let kids use cookie cutters to turn their sandwiches into fun shapes. They’ll enjoy the creative outlet while helping your meal prep go faster. They’ll also be excited the next day to eat the foods they created.
4. Keep it simple – Being a super parent doesn’t mean making homemade everything. Make your life a little easier by finding products that are individually packaged to make lunch box assembly quicker. Santa Cruz Organic Fruit Sauces and Squeezable Pouches contain no added sugar and each 4-ounce sauce cup provides 100% RDI of Vitamin C.
5. PB&J all the way! – No lunch box is complete without the classic PB&J sandwich. Try Santa Cruz Organic Peanut Butters and Fruit Spreads – both made with no artificial ingredients.
Organic Lunch Ideas
This is a very typical lunch box at my house.
I have a main entree which can vary from leftovers, soups (use Thermos containers), sandwiches and of course peanut butter and jelly. I always try to find good bakery bread or use whole wheat loaves without high fructose corn syrup.
A fruit or veggie is next. Organic berries, bananas, grapes, carrots, peppers and Santa Cruz applesauce are probably are most common. P’Diddy always asks for a side to go with his. Hummus to go with his vegetables and peanut butter mixed with honey is a good fruit dip.
Finally a ‘dessert’ which can be a variety of items and I do try to make it organic. I’ve found that Target’s Simply Balanced line has great choices and very affordable. Trader Joes has fun ones too! Check out my homemade organic dessert cookie recipes where I used Santa Cruz Organic ingredients – Organic Thumbprint Cookies & Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich Cookies.
Oh and I can’t forget my Santa Cruz Organic Lemonade that I put in their Thermos Bottle.
I prepare most of it ahead so I can just grab the next morning. I aim for as little waste as possible and my newest fav is my reusable, handmade, Sav Ur Sac sandwich bags from Green City Living (visit my post!). I’m ordering more cloth napkins from them next!
