I lived in the Midwest for the first 31 years of my life. We had two children, built a new house, and I had a job that I really liked. I was not going to leave! One of the main reasons I wanted to stay put was because I didn’t want to be away from my family…away from my mom. I am glad now that we did leave and have been on an adventure in life living in two new beautiful places that she loves to visit. The problem is, we now only see each other once or twice a year.
A girl still needs her mom. Especially when she doesn’t have sisters or daughters to do those girl things with – shopping, spa days, party planning, decorating. Chatting on the phone is not the same as being here.
My mom does a great job of texting and checking in almost daily. She never ever misses a birthday (in fact we get multiple messages that day – cards in the mail, texts, email, Facebook posts) or other special days to let us know she is thinking of us. She is very positive and inspirational and I hope she knows how much I appreciate her!
Today the boys and I headed to Walmart to put together a special gift for Mother’s Day. Near the card aisle we found a section dedicated for just this occasion. It was American Greeting’s One-Stop Shop where we found lovely cards, cute gift bags, and other fun trinkets to show our mothers how special they are to us.
We want my mom, the boys Gamma, to feel like a queen that day even though we won’t be together. We picked out a few items that we knew she would smile about and headed home to put them together. Everything was found in the One-Stop Shop aisle, except the gift card which was found right at the register.
Chocolates (in wrappings with our color theme!) in a reusable container, a cute flower pot for decor that she can reuse the green pot when she’s done looking at it, and my favorite item is the card. It has a great saying and is illustrated by Mary Engelbreit who I love.
O’Bear quickly got started on the card. He wrote Gamma You Are a Jewel on the front envelope and used jewel embellishments that I had in my scrapbook pile to stick on the front. Each child signed the inside – I think this little touch is important!
P’Diddy wanted to be in charge of the chocolate and knew his grandmother would love this little box as much as he did.
We inserted the gift card inside the greeting card, found some tissue to put inside the gift bag along with the other items and bam we were done. Simple, but oh so special. We’ll stick in a big box to mail in plenty of time for May 10th.
Can’t wait to hear how it will be received!
