Today I’ve teamed up with my local SUBWAY® and Social Moms to share how they are giving back to our community in the “You Share. We Share.” campaign to help support different charities. From now through August 31st, more than 7,800 local SUBWAY® Restaurants in the US and Canada are encouraging us to get out and share our weekends. Ours have been beautiful so this is not hard! SUBWAY® Restaurants in the Denver, Colorado Springs, and Grand Junction areas will share right back by donating a percentage of weekend sales, up to $65,000, directly to Special Olympics Colorado.
The Denver area is partnered with Special Olympics!
Did you know? Special Olympics is the largest health provider for individuals with intellectual disabilities in the world. They have trained more than 120,000 health professionals in 7 disciplines and have conducted over 1.2 million health screenings globally.
Special Olympics Unified programs are working because it’s in the numbers:
- 78% of typically developing youth report that their attitudes toward bullying have changed
- 75% increase in school involvement among those with intellectual disabilities
- 84% of all students report the program is life-changing
When I visited the Special Olympics of Colorado site I was in awe over all the events there is in our state! I love how we are always encouraging each other to get active, no matter our talents or disabilities!
You also may have heard of The Special Olympics World Games. They are held every two years, rotating between Winter Games and Summer Games. This July 25th, the opening ceremonies will be televised on ESPN. Four of the 304 athletes from the U.S. will come from Colorado and represent Special Olympics USA in swimming (Chris McElroy), powerlifting (Nikia Davenport) and tennis (Julian Hall and Nathan Knepper).
Good Luck to them and a big Thank You to our local Denver SUBWAY® resturants. Find one near you!
