Our Favorite Places in San Francisco
I just came back from my first visit to California! There are a few reasons that we chose San Francisco as our summer destination and I’m so glad we did. Every single minute was wonderful. Let me tell you why. Here are our favorite places in San Francisco to visit with your family.
Our favorite places in San Francisco
San Francisco Giants. We are a baseball family and this is my husband’s long time favorite team. It was a MUST to go to a game. The best part was the stadium tour we took earlier in the day. A group of about 15 people was shown around the entire park with a guide. The boys got to sit in the dugout which they thought was awesome!
The AT&T Park Tour was included in our Go City Card. For 1 price you can visit up to 27 attractions in the San Francisco area! Phew! How much can you get done?
We also used our Go City Card for Escape from the Rock boat cruise which took us under the Golden Gate Bridge and around Alcatraz Island. Visit my Yelp review to see what I thought of that. It was so beautiful!
Alcatraz Island. We highly recommend. Not only will you learn history, get to hear all the gritty details of a harsh prison, tour the cells, but the views from the ferry ride and the island itself are spectacular!
Ocean Beach. While the bay is gorgeous with its blue green water, I had to see the Pacific Ocean waves and dig my toes in the sand. The boys did too, though it was a little chilly!
Trolley. We used all of San Francisco’s public transportation – the cable car, the BART subway, the bus, but we had to get on a trolley. I told the boys this is the epic San Francisco photo.
Chinatown. Everyone told me I had to walk the blocks of Chinatown so we did. Watching how the food markets work and listening to the foreign dialogues was quite the experience.
We really wanted to get to Muir Woods to see the huge Redwood trees, but the crowds were unbelievable and we couldn’t even park. We did get to Mill Valley to this little park that had a few gorgeous trees, another variety of Redwoods. We ate lunch in Sausalito and hung around checking out all the boats in the marina. We also went over to Oakland to see where the Warriors play.
Where did we stay? Right in the heart of San Francisco – The Handlery in Union Square. It was right in the hustle and bustle!
Union Square and the Trolley are footsteps away.
All other public transportation is maybe a 5 minute walk.
Outdoor heated pool which is hard to find downtown.
Parking which is impossible to find downtown. hahaha.
Pet friendly, fitness room, free wifi, sauna, concierge who was so helpful, are more amenities.
We LOVED staying so close to everything. It is just fun! Shopping, restaurants galore, plus everyday needs like Walgreens and Starbucks were steps away.
