Family Cloth Wipes can be defined in a lot of ways. They can be used as diaper wipes, washcloths, napkins, tissues, etc. Today we are going to talk about them as something a little different. If you hear the term Family Cloth then they may be referring to cloth toilet paper.
I have talked about a lot of eco-friendly alternatives on this blog haven’t I? Before trying out each one, I was a bit nervous. Cloth diapers? Was I crazy? Why would I want to wash those? Mama Cloth? No way would I ever try that! Gross! I cannot say how many times I wish I had done both of those options sooner. My family uses cloth everything. Why shouldn’t I use cloth toilet paper too?
Have you ever wondered the history of toilet paper? What did people use before it was invented? Well, just use your imagination: grass, leaves, fur, mussell shells, corncobs, stones, pieces of clay…and the list goes on.
1886 came about perforated, medicated, rolled toilet paper. In 1935, Northern Tissue advertised “splinter-free” toilet paper. Yep, you read that right; early paper production techniques sometimes left splinters embedded in the paper.
So cloth doesn’t sound so bad does it?
I have to tell you that they sat near my potty for a couple of days as I stared at them each time I went into the bathroom. Finally they screamed ‘pick me up! use me!’ and I did. I was like ‘ahhhhh….so soft and nice…’ I began using them each time I used the restroom, but haven’t worked my way up to number two yet. I believe I will one day soon though. Was that too much info? 🙂
Into my zipped up wet bag it went. At laundry time I dumped them in with my diapers (or recommended a load by themselves since we don’t all have babies in cloth!) and they came out even softer. These are great wipes!
They are made of 100% cotton flannel and are double layered. They measure 6X 8 and are professional serged with rounded corners.
Etsy’s Family Cloth Wipes sells them in sets from 15-45 so you can set that fits your needs. Maybe one set for your bathroom and another set to keep in the kitchen to use with messes. So many options!!
Win a set of the 30 wipes pictured below!
They are great huh?
Edited to add years later: I still LOVE these and use them daily!
Family Cloth Wipes sent me cloth wipes for review. I was not compensated in any way and all opinions are my own.
