Derby Day Tea-Lep {Lipton’s Pure Leaf Iced Tea with Mint!}
Sometimes I will admit that Hubby is smarter than me. Not very often, but sometimes. I told him that we were to mix a drink for the Kentucky Derby and he immediately says Mint Julep! I give him this look like What?! and he goes on to say that it is the official drink of the Derby. Wow, he was right!
Today I am going to show you how to make a Derby Day Tea-lep made with Lipton’s Pure Leaf Iced Tea!
First though, I want to share with you some cool facts that I have learned about this new tea…
All natural with no preservatives or colors ~ which I know is very important to most of you!
New packaging is made with 100% recyclable plastic ~ no more glass ~ are lightweight and provide a high pallet efficiency, which equates to more bottles, lighter loads and less fuel used in transport.
Tea leaves are hand-harvested only on Rainforest Alliance Certified farms by Pure Leaf’s Master Blenders (would love that job!).

The Kentucky Derby is this Saturday, May 5th. Here a fun and delicious drink to share as you watch the race with friends and family.
DERBY DAY TEA-LEP
Servings: 1
3oz Pure Leaf Sweetened Iced Tea
3 Lemon Slices
6 large Mint Leaves
In highball glass, add mint and then crush. Add two lemon slices and fill glass with ice, then Pure Leaf Sweetened Iced Tea. Garnish with a lemon slice. For a special twist, add 1oz Kentucky bourbon.
(I doubled the tea since I served in a bigger glass and used mint flakes. No bourbon for me.)
You will be the hit of the party!
Or take your glass out to your front porch and enjoy a nice cool spring drink. It is delish!
See, even baby wants ‘more more’

Taking Family Portraits
I like taking pictures, but I am not very good at it. I would love to take a class one day to learn all the ends and outs of photography. My brother is a great amateur photographer and as I’m typing this I think I may ask him to show off some of his great pics on the blog one day soon.
For my birthday this year, Hubby surprised me with the best camera I’ve had yet. Maybe you’ve noticed the past couple of months that my pictures have gotten a little bit better? maybe?
When my older boys were little, I would try to get their picture professionally taken every six months to a year. Then we’d get a family shot done every other year or so. I wanted lots of memories! Many times, I relied on jcpportraits at the local Portrait Studio near me. I’ve always been a jcpenney fan and it was easy to bring them in. They had great backgrounds, great customer service, and best of all, great DEALS!
Example, their April promotion of $20 for 6 traditional portrait sheets (mix and match size and images) as well as one free $9 sitting fee. I always wanted to buy photos for all the extended family, so jcpenney was always the way to go!
These days, I am lazy. Do you find that after your third child, things just don’t get done? Hubby and I mess around with taking pictures of the boys a couple of times a year, for the Christmas card, or just because I have such cuties to photograph. A few things we always be sure to do….
Have a great background. I have a beach now so my photos are great! ha! We’ve done the ocean, sand dunes, and the local piers.
Find the perfect time of day. The last time we went, the sun was way to bright, the boys were squinting, and there were just to many people around to find ‘the shot’.
Make sure everyone is happy. Going at naptime would not be the best bet. Promise a special treat after they showed off those awesome smiles. Bribery is always good, right?
Have someone else take the photos. That way you can get a great Family Shot to last a life time. Maybe you’re lucky like me and have a wonderful photography friend with a fancy camera.
Or make life easy, and head over to your local jcpenney Portrait Studio.
How come someone’s eyes are always closed on the best pictures?
How do you get your Family Portraits taken? Do you take them very often?
I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of jcpenney Portrait Studio. I was asked to create a Pinterest Board and pin at least five (5) pins. I give jcpenney the right to repin any or all images/original content from this board. I received a promotional item as a thanks for my participation
Southern Berry Julius made with #SilkFruit
Maybe it’s the southern in us. Or maybe it’s the health nut in us. Or maybe it is that we just like to drink smoothies!
Hubby is the smoothie specialist in our house. He makes them often and is always coming up with something new. Not sure he ever uses the same ‘recipe’ twice. When I told him that he had to create a smoothie out of Silk Fruit&Protein, he was up for the challenge!
O’Bear and I headed to Walmart to grab what we needed. We found Silk Fruit&Protein in the dairy department near the milk. Easy peasy!
It comes in three flavors ~ mixed berry, strawberry banana, peach mango ~ we choose the berry.
Doing his magic!
Have you ever had an Orange Julius? We used to get them all the time back home, but I haven’t seen one in years. Hubby felt inspired to try and recreate the Berry Orange Julius.
Only four ingredients and ice! He calls it…
Southern Berry Julius
1c of Silk Fruit&Protein ~ Mixed Berry Flavor
1/2 c Orange Juice
1 tsp Vanilla
2c Ice
handful of frozen mixed berries (optional)
Mix all together in blender and voila!
We first tested it without the frozen berries. It was good but we were looking for a bit thicker smoothie this time. Once we stuck a few of them in and mixed again…it was perrrrfect!
And the kiddos agree…YUM!
